‘Tis the season for a Holiday UPlift

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that we love where we live. Nova Scotia is home, it’s where we were all born and raised, and it’s where we choose to live and work. As a small business, it’s important to us to seek out other small businesses and help lift them UP.

We love the vibrant small business community here at home. It helps make the fabric of our province so unique. From the food and wine, to the artisans, to the culture, there is just so much to love. Not to mention, the incredible small business owners that work day in and day out to produce the world-class products that we’re all so proud of.

Every day we feel fortunate to work with so many local businesses across the province. We believe that small businesses can truly make the biggest impact and we love to spend our days helping them tell their incredible stories. That’s why we started Up In Your Neighbourhood at the beginning of this year. We wanted to explore our province and highlight a lot of these incredible businesses doing incredible things. So far our travels have taken us to Truro, Windsor, Wolfville, Shelburne, Dartmouth and Kentville, and we can’t wait to continue discovering and promoting the charm of more places in the coming year.

Some of you may also remember that earlier this year, the Up team decided to throw caution to the wind and fundraise $10,000 in 10 weeks on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC)… in the middle of the pandemic. What originally seemed like an impossible task quickly came to fruition thanks to the incredible support from over 40 local businesses. Through our “Support Local for LLSC” campaign, we were able to raise thousands of dollars by selling donated gift cards at face value with 100% of the proceeds going to LLSC. Thanks to their support, we were able to exceed our goal, finishing at $10,400 – all going towards local cancer research. THANK YOU doesn’t even begin to describe how grateful we are for your support.

To close out the year we’re hoping to shine a light on the importance of showing kindness to those closest to you, because after all, they’re the ones you lean into when you need a hand!

Today, we’re excited to launch our Holiday UPlift campaign – a way that we can show you all how appreciative we really are. Here’s what it looks like for us:

SHOP LOCAL – ‘Tis the season, right? So, while we’re out shopping for our loved ones, we’re making it a priority to shop local as much as possible (with a goal of at least 85% of our total spend). We’re also going to be featuring some of our favourite local businesses through our Up social channels and take you along for the ride as we shop them all. Follow along to see which local ones we hit UP!

EAT LOCAL – Chances are that we’re all getting together a lot more over the holiday season (while staying socially distant in our bubbles, of course!) so why not use it as an opportunity to support amazing locally owned restaurants and cafes? We will be!

DRINK LOCAL – How many bottles of wine, beer & spirits do you buy over the holiday season? Don’t worry, we’re not here to judge! We’re just here to remind you of the many incredible, DELICIOUS local options there are right here at home. So, you wanna bet that anything we’re buying this holiday season will be carefully crafted right here in Nova Scotia.

DONATE LOCAL – The pandemic has been hard on the charitable sector. There are so many amazing non-profits in Nova Scotia that have continued to support those in need. The holiday season is a time to give, and if you can, please consider donating to a local charity.

During this time, we’ll also be using our blog to promote tips for shopping local, sharing some of our favourite products through a gift list and, of course, featuring many of our favourite local businesses through our social channels. To keep UP to date, follow along on Instagram at @upyourpr!

You know what they say: home is where the heart is. Well, Nova Scotia, it’s safe to say that you own ours!
