Soak it all Up

How do you keep things fresh and unique for each and every client? This tends to be a question I get a lot from different clients, colleagues and friends.

Each time my response is similar. It starts from building a relationship with them.

My favourite part of building a business is getting the opportunity to meet some really inspirational people. I love learning from my clients – who they are, what they do, what they’re passionate about, what they’re trying to achieve. Through these conversations, I too let them know who I am, what I do, what I’m passionate about and what I’m trying to achieve.

By building this relationship over time, it becomes almost second nature for me to develop their voice through my writing.

The truth is, as a communications professional, sometimes I find it easier to take on the voices of my clients than finding my own.

As someone who likes to be constantly on the move, it’s challenging for me to sit down and make time to check in with myself and ask the complicated questions. How did you feel about that? Are you happy with that result? Would you do something differently next time?

As challenging as checking in with yourself may be, it makes way for the most important parts of being a lifelong student – reflection, innovation, knowledge.

What’s that saying? Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. Checking in with yourself allows you to continuously grow, and lends you the confidence to take a step toward something new the next time around.

So do me a favour, okay? The next time you find yourself making excuses for being too busy for reflection…

Step back. Take a deep breath. Reflect. Remember why you’re doing all of this in the first place (because you love it!)
